Foals es una banda de Oxford, Inglaterra, cuna de otras bandas "matemáticas" como This Town Needs Guns, Youthmovies o The Edmund Fitzgerald. Se puede decir que estas dos últimas son bandas "hermanas" de Foals ya que compartieron integrantes en algún momento (el primer vocalista de Foals es el actual vocalista de Youthmovies y dos miembros de Foals tocaron en The Edmund Fitzgerald).

Personalmente no me gustan las clasificaciones musicales exageradas, tanto las que son para describir algo muy específico como las que son muy generales, pero en este caso creo que sí he de aplicarlas para describir el sonido de la banda. Si bien es preciso y calculado como el llamado math rock, también tiene un ritmo "bailable" conocido como dance punk (a mi parecer uno de los nombres de género más ridículos que se ha inventado).

Hay quienes le encuentran alguna similitud con Bloc Party pero a mí se me hace un poco difícil. En algunas canciones la voces se parecen (como en Dearth) pero en cuanto al tema instrumental creo que hay mucha diferencia.

La discografía está parcialmente completa, solo faltan algunos remixes y un disco en vivo, pero a pesar de esto hay un culo de canciones que no se encuentran muy facilmente y están todos los singles completos. El primero que sacaron (Try This On Your Piano/Look At My Furrows of Worry) tiene un sonido muy diferente al tomado luego de la salida del entonces vocalista, pero eso no significa que sea malo, inclusive creo que Try This On Your Piano es una de mis favoritas.
